PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Managed by the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority, the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge is an 81 year-old suspension bridge connecting the New York City boroughs of the Bronx with Queens. As one of famed Swiss-born architect Othmar Ammann’s timeless creations, also known for designing the George Washington and Verrazzano-Narrows bridges, the sleek art deco style suspension bridge originally had a toll set of 25 cents for passenger vehicles. Today, while that number has increased, cashless tolling has been implemented to ease the slow down upon entering with nearly 45 million crossings each year. ATI partnered with Halmar International on the concrete, soils and asphalt inspections for these upgrades.
