PROJECT DESCRIPTION
As a part of the Metropolitan Transit Authority’s plans to modernize and upgrade the entirety of their facilities, the escalators at the Grand Central Terminal’s 42nd Street entrance was one of the first on the list as it is the busiest entry point in the entirety of the New York City subway system. At 107 years old, the national historical landmark, required a few upgrades to accommodate the almost one million daily visitors that pass through the famed walls. With the escalators being such a pivotal aspect of what keeps Grand Central moving and gets commuters to their destinations in one of the world’s top ten most visited locations, the updates are crucial to be completed in a timely and efficient manner. Amaracon performed the structural steel inspections, concrete reinforcement inspections, masonry inspections, and spray-applied fireproofing inspections.
